Successful Roof Campaign

Thanks to everyone who has committed to our recent roof campaign. Please try to keep up with your contributions. Our sanctuary roof has been replaced, but additional building funds are always needed. We are currently making plans to upgrade our antiquated electrical system. If you have questions call Jerry Wilkins at 215-498-5544.

I would like to take a moment to thank a few people who have helped me to find my footing these first few months as head of Buildings and Grounds. First, I would like to thank Jerry Wilkins for stepping aside without stepping away. If I have a question, I know that I can call Jerry. I would also like to thank Bill Thompson, Jay Lane, and Mickey Yorkiewicz; without them all the little things that get done without anyone noticing wouldn’t get done. 

Have you noticed how nice the grounds are looking? You can thank Jerry, Ken Ross, and all those who helped to weed. If you have looked up recently, you have seen our new roof. Tom’s Roofing did a wonderful job, but as is common with this kind of work, some nails get left around the site, no matter how good the clean up. As you walk around outside the church, look down; and if you see a nail please pick it up. Little things like this can help us all be safer.

Buildings and Grounds will continue to meet on Saturday mornings at approximately 8:30 a.m. to do little things around the grounds. If you have an hour or two to spare, please come and join us. Also, we are having our first meeting of the church year, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. If you are thinking of getting involved with Buildings and Grounds or just want to see what we do, please come and join us. This is a big property to maintain, but with your help we can do it.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS COMMITTEE NEWS______________________

Several men of the church continue to work on improvements to our facilities on Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. We are always looking for additional help. Your help on a Saturday morning would be greatly appreciated. See or call Jerry Wilkins at (215) 702-0221. Below is our ambitious “To-Do” List for this year. If you see something in your area of expertise, please give us a call!

Main Building

·        Caulk windows, steps and sidewalks areas where needed

·        Clean and repair all gutters and add screening

·        Finish painting Fellowship Hall and the kitchen

·        Refinish kitchen cabinets

·        Paint the inside steps in Fellowship Hall leading downstairs (gray paint area)

·        Apply Dry-Lok paint to several areas in the basement

·        Repair the exhaust fan in the men’s room

·        Coat roof of Fellowship Hall

·        Extend book racks behind each Sanctuary pew

·        Repair urinal in the men’s room

·        Install new lights in the classrooms downstairs

·        Address the problem of water coming in under the steps downstairs

·        Wash all windows, inside and out

·        Clean the carpet in the sanctuary

·        Install new doors in Fellowship Hall (facing Bristol Road)

Annex

·        Finish painting inside

·        Fix ceilings where leaks were

·        Clean the second floor (all remaining trash)

·        Install weather stripping on doors and windows

·        Wash all windows, inside and out

·        Repair wall in basement and cellar door-stop water from entering

·        Caulk kitchen sink area

·        Paint outside of building plus new wood installed with gutters

·        Install additional outlets for lights in the lounge area

·        Attach television to antenna 

·        Improve landscaping around the entire building and clean up debris and leaves
